Highland Park 199213 year old Island 65.2 % vol
1 of only 561 bottles from cask 20361

Just look at the strength of this bottling! Yet the nose is not nearly as aggressive as you would think, indeed the whole profile has a well-mannered style to it, quite typical of Highland Park. It has been drawn from a re-fill ex-sherry butt, and the colour is pale mahogany, with pink lights. The initial sparky nose-feel soon passes and allows the aroma to be sniffed without pain: first, model-makers glue, then a floral note we thought reminiscent of Jasmine; some tablet at base and a thread of smoke, which becomes more noticeable when water is added. After dilution other light phenols join the smoke – lint bandages, sphagnum moss and pill boxes, with traces of brown sugar. The texture is delectably viscous, waxy and 'teeth-coating'. The flavour starts sweet and dries lightly, with smouldering garden bonfires in the finish and a curious herbal aftertaste.
