Unusually, this has matured in a refill sherry hogshead (not butt), giving it a warm gold appearance.
The European oak maturation is immediately apparent with cherry cake burnt edges on the nose. Then, waxy, buttery, orange zest becoming more chocolaty – now dark chocolate with orange, possibly a Jaffacake.
Hot and sweet to taste without water, drying to chocolate.
With water, memories of an artist studio (natural turps), tasting peppery with crisp, green apples, drying in the finish, now to bitter chocolate. An old-style Macallan at a relatively young age.
