The Malt Maniacs are quite possibly the most acclaimed and respected independent judges of all things Whisky. Each year they invite the Scotch Whisky Industry to send some examples of their toil, and having been decanted into "blind" miniatures, these whiskies are then sent around the world to the judges.
Scores and comments are duly given, and in late November/early December the master blenders, independent bottlers and consultant noses quake in trepidation as the results are released.
Until 2007 the Maniacs allowed unlimited entries to their awards, but have had to curb the world of whiskies' enthusiasm by limiting us to just 5 entries now.
Awards are given to those whiskies that are deemed "top of the class" in their category.
Medals are awarded to all whiskies scoring over 80% (Bronze), 85% (Silver) and 90% (Gold). Only those whiskies that receive medals are listed in their awards site.
