Youkoso, Mr Glover

Following simultaneous launches in Aberdeen and Tokyo on Monday 26th October, we’re proud and delighted to unveil two very rare and unique whiskies, commissoned to celebrate the remarkable  life of Thomas Blake Glover.

Born in Fraserburgh in 1838, Thomas Blake Glover went on to become a towering figure in the industrial development of Japan in the 19th century.   The remarkable cultural and commercial achievments of the ‘Scottish Samurai’ are well recognised in Japan, but far less so in his native Scotland.

These commemorative whiskies have been created to celebrate the bonds, forged by Glover, that still exist between Scotland and Japan, bonds that have become ever stronger in recent years through a shared passion for producing – and enjoying – extraordinary whiskies.

The Glover 22yr old is a one-off bottling, selected and blended from just 3 single casks distilled at Hanyu Distillery Japan, and Longmorn and Glen Garioch distilleries in Scotland. Limited to just 390 bottles worldwide

The Glover 14yr old is a limited batch release of just 1500 bottles, blended from Scotch and Japanese malt whiskies.

Both will be available from mid-November from Adelphi stockists.

Maturation Update

There’s already a sense of “belonging” in the lower dunnage warehouse at Ardnamurchan.  That’s not to say that we spend all day and night in there, but that the mould is spreading out across the floor and up the walls, and the smell that has attracted Scottish angels for centuries is already pervading the cool, damp air…
Nearly 500 casks are now lined up, all of them full of Ardnamurchan spirit, each an individual piece in our maturation jigsaw.

We’ve picked out 2 to compare to the New Make Spirit, and the results are already quite extraordinary:

From left to right: Ardnamurchan new make spirit (July 2014); Ardnamurchan spirit, 1st fill Bourbon barrel 7 ½ months old; Ardnamurchan spirit, 1st fill Sherry hogshead (PX) 5 months old.
